Huawei P20 / P20 Pro Upgrades To EMUI 9.1 (Android 9.0)

On July 13th, Huawei announced the EMUI 9.1 upgrade to Huawei P20 / P20 Pro along with the progress so far.

The announcement shows that the public beta version of the open service is not limited to upgrade. Both Honor P20 and P20 Pro support 9.0.0.187 and can upgrade to 9.1.0.312 version. The original public beta registration channel closed at 12:00 on July 13th.

It is worth noting that the official release of EMUI 9.1, which incorporates the Ark Compiler and Super File System (EROFS), is expected to be released in late July.

EMUI 9.1 Featured List

According to the official introduction, the Ark compiler changed the compilation mode of the Android system from the bottom. It replaced the dynamic compilation with high resource consumption with efficient static compilation. This improved the system fluency by 24% and the system response performance by 44%.

The new super file system EROFS increases the random read speed by an average of 20% and responds quickly to your control; the patented compression method gives you extra space to store 1000+ images or 500+ music.

In addition, there are some problems with the public beta version of EMUI 9.1 which you might experience on Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. Please upgrade as appropriate.

    1. When using the Huawei phone assistant system repair function after upgrading the EMUI9.1 public beta version, the repair may fail. Please use Huawei system repair (recovery) to repair the system.
    2. After upgrading the EMUI9.1 public beta version, the smartphone’s personal hotspot function may not work properly. Please try to turn off the phone’s Bluetooth switch and enter the password again.
