Snapdragon 670 Vs Snapdragon 710 - OPPO R17 Vs Xiaomi Mi 8 SE Fetured

Snapdragon 670 Vs Snapdragon 710 Comparison – OPPO R17 Vs Xiaomi Mi 8 SE

Qualcomm recently released Snapdragon 670 as the successor of the Snapdragon 660. Whereas, it also released a totally new series with the Snapdragon 710, a couple of months back. Since we have the latest SoCs, it is a perfect moment to do a Snapdragon 670 Vs Snapdragon 710 Comparison, determining the performance difference. Previously, in the Snapdragon 660 Vs Snapdragon 710, the comparison was somewhat unfair, as SD 710 was a new 10nm upper-mid end SoC while SD 660 was based on 14nm. Now with both SoCs released in 2018 and based on 10nm process, it’s fair to compete Snapdragon 670 performance with Snapdragon 710. So, let’s start the Snapdragon 670 Vs Snapdragon 710 comparison:

Snapdragon 670 Vs Snapdragon 710 Comparison – The Participants

We have selected the first smartphones to feature these SoCs. OPPO R17 released on August 23, is the first and the only to date smartphone featuring a Snapdragon 670.

Whereas for the Snapdragon 710, we have Xiaomi Mi 8 SE released on June 5 as the first phone to integrate it.

Snapdragon 670 Vs Snapdragon 710 Comparison – The Similarities & Differences

Both the Snapdragon 670 and the Snapdragon 710 is built on a 10nm process, using the Kryo 360 architecture and octa-core design (2 large cores + 6 small cores).

The only differences we find are the frequency and the GPU. The CPU of the Snapdragon 670 is clocked at 2.0GHz, whereas, the CPU of the Snapdragon 710 is clocked at 2.2GHz. Considering the GPU, we have a slightly lower GPU ‘Adreno 615‘ in SD 660 or we should say OPPO R17. Meanwhile, a slighter better GPU ‘Adreno 616’ features Snapdragon 670  / Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. The primary and secondary camera MP supports are slightly different. And Snapdragon 710 has a much faster cellular modem speed.

So will these differences bring a large performance gap between Snapdragon 670 and Snapdragon 710? Let’s find out:

Snapdragon 670 Vs Snapdragon 710 Comparison – The AnTuTu Benchmark Test

As shown in the figure, the in AnTuTu Benchmark, Snapdragon 710 score is 160,995 (Xiaomi Mi 8 SE), and the Snapdragon 670 score is 156,594 (OPPO R17). The results are very close and the difference is of only 4401 points.

Snapdragon 670 Vs Snapdragon 710 Comparison – The Verdict

In comparison to the Snapdragon 660 vs Snapdragon 710, the Snapdragon 670 vs Snapdragon 710 doesn’t have that difference. This leaves to our one last question:

Does the difference between the 600 and 700 series looking at the latest SoC releases from each series?

Well, the answer is in front of you. We would have said that 700 series was way better when we only had the Snapdragon 660 as the most recent SoC. But, with the SD 670 released with the same process and architecture, the performance difference isn’t that obvious. Moreover, we should note that the difference in the points is also because of Xiaomi’s fast MIUI Android 8.1 OS in comparison to OPPO’s ColorOS. Even the performance difference is always variable so, we can consider the 4401 points almost negligible.

Indeed, Snapdragon 660 has a slightly less price than Snapdragon 710. But with the current situation, OPPO R17 is almost $200+ expensive than Xiaomi Mi SE 8. This is because of the features like triple camera, reduced top notch, and so on. We recommend going for Xiaomi Mi 8 SE for now. However, in the future, you might go for the Snapdragon 670, if some manufacturer releases it way cheaper than Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, which will probably be Xiaomi itself. In terms of specs-over-price ratio, Snapdragon 670 might simply beat Snapdragon 710.

Surely the difference in performance will increase when we will have an SD 720 with us. But we expect these two SoCs to run till the end of 2018.
