Design & Appearance

The two new devices have screens without bevels and minimalist designs where holes have been eliminated throughout the body. The only minimum hole that persists in the Meizu Zero is the microphone. What we know so far, is that Vivo APEX 2019 has been presented as a concept. However, the Meizu Zero seems ready for launch. The Vivo APEX 2019 has the smallest bevels we’ve seen. But the Meizu Zero still retains visible bevels at the top and bottom.

In the Meizu Zero, it will be possible to raise and lower volume or turn it on with the help of the AM Engi 2.0 technology, which consists in making a gentle pressure on the sides of the terminal. That is, the buttons on the Meizu terminal will be virtual haptic. Evidently, in Vivo APEX 2019, there are no physical buttons on it either. To execute a task, must use a technique called “Touch Sense”, where everything will be done by pressure-sensing. This technology is based on capacitive touch and pressure detection.

A detail in the design of the Meizu Zero that distinguishes it from Vivo APEX 2019, is the protuberance in the area of the rear camera. Vivo’s device does not have this feature, in fact, the flash LED is almost invisible. The Vivo APEX 2019 will have a design of uni-body curved-surface water-drop glass and will be manufactured in white, black and silver colors. For its part, the Meizu Zero has a ceramic body with a curved screen design that extends to the sides, where can make use of AM Engi 2.0 technology. Its build quality looks better and includes IP68 certification to protect it from dust and water.

Screen & Display

The screen is AMOLED with a diagonal of 5.99 inches and a Full HD + resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. In addition, it is protected by 2.5d curved glass.

Although not yet confirmed, the Vivo APEX 2019 could have an AMOLED screen of 6.39 inches with Full HD+ resolution (2340 x 2018p). However, the most important feature is the full-display fingerprint scanner, which allows the screen to be unlocked in almost any area.

Sound

The speakers in the Meizu Zero and Vivo APEX 2019 were eliminated but a sound system has been incorporated that uses the screen itself as an emitter. This technology in the Vivo APEX 2019 is called Body SoundCasting and promises to offer great sound quality. On the Meizu Zero, the AmuSound 2.0 technology has been included in place of the loudspeaker. It is said that the screen of the phone is capable of functioning as a speaker and headset.

Hardware & Performance

Internally, the Vivo APEX 2019 will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 1 x Cortex A76 a 2.84 GHz, 3 x Cortex A76 a 2.42GHz, 4 x Cortex-A55 a 1.8GHz; and an Adreno 640 GPU. Also, it will be accompanied by 12GB of RAM, while 256/512GB of internal storage will also be available. Vivo has also added a Liquid Cooling technology to the device.

While the Meizu Zero is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which is accompanied by the Adreno 630 GPU, 4/6GB of RAM and 64/238GB of ROM.

Connectivity & OS

The Vivo APEX 2019 does not have a headphone jack or charging port. But there are magnetic pins on its back panel, which the company has called them “MagPort” and will support the battery charge and the transfer of data. Therefore, these metallic points will allow the smartphone to be used with accessories that expand its capabilities without the need to plug the terminal. If we want to transfer the data in the Meizu Zero, will have to rely on Wi-Fi, wireless USB3.0 and mobile networks.

Our Verdict

Winner: Vivo APEX 2019

The two devices are, for now, concept phones. But with all the data that has been provided so far, we could conclude that in this battle between the Vivo APEX 2019 vs Meizu Zero, the Vivo device would offer better design, more advanced technologies in terms of wireless connectivity and a hardware at the height of the high-end terminals that we will see in this 2019. In addition, it would be one of the first smartphones to include 5G technology, which makes it a more promising device. The only thing we can not rescue is the quality of construction.
