MediaTek Helio P40 & Helio P70 Exposure | Upcoming Xiaomi Smartphone

MediaTek has finally decided to put rest to the high-end Helio X series. The SoC maker’s next goal is to focus on P series SoC and conquering the low and mid-end SoC market. After the release of MediaTek Helio P23 and P30, the company will soon release MediaTek Helio P40 & Helio P70. These SoCs are meant to be cost-effective, attracting the smartphone manufacturing brands.

MediaTek Helio P40 & Helio P70 Exposure – What’s the Difference

Following the P40 exposure, MediaTek P70 has also been exposed, as the two new processors. The SoC has adopted the TSMC 12nm process. There are four built-in A73 + four A53. The only difference between P40 and P70 is the frequency. P40 is running at 2GHz, meanwhile, the P70 is clocked at 2.5GHz. Moreover, P40 will integrate a Mali G72MP3 700MHz GPU, whereas, P70 will have a slightly powerful Mali G72MP4 800MHz.

Moreover, both SoCs will support artificial intelligence. According to MediaTek previous statement, its own AI technology is the integration of CPU, GPU, VPU and DLA various computing units to the terminal chip, to achieve a hybrid AI architecture of “Cloud + Terminal”, and to improve the computing efficiency of Edge AI.

In memory support, MediaTek Helio P40 & Helio P70 support up to 8GB of LPDDR4X memory. Again the difference between both SoCs supports different memory frequency. Moreover, regarding built-in baseband, P40 support Cat.7 whereas P70 supports Cat.12. Although the two processors GPU is weaker, but the overall performance is great and should be more competitive than the Snapdragon 6 series.

In addition, according to the Taiwan media, in 2018, Xiaomi will integrate these two SoC in two of their full-screen Redmi flagships. These Redmi flagships will be mid and high-end, coupled with 6GB RAM. However, Xiaomi isn’t the only one to incorporate these two SoCs. OPPO and Vivo also have a keen interest in using MediaTek Helio P40 & Helio P70.
