Say Hello To Xiao AI Voice Assistant, But in Chinese 😉 (NFC version Only)
Since more and more wearables are featuring voice assistant like Apple Watch uses Siri, Google watch uses Google voice assistant, Xiaomi also decides to introduce ‘Xiao Ai’ voice assistant in the Mi Band 4 and Mi Band 4 NFC version. We should note that Xiao AI is already on MIUI 10 China Stable ROM and various Xiaomi products. However, the global users will be in disadvantage here as, at the moment, Xia AI doesn’t support English or any other language voice assistance, only Chinese. So it’s a plus if you know some broken Chinese because you can not only control your Xiaomi smartphone but also Xiaomi and Mijia home appliances and products such as Mijia table lamp, Mijia air conditioner, sweeping robot, rice cooker, Mijia smart door lock, and other electrical appliances.
Sliding to the right on the home screen wakes up Xiao Ai. And with voice commands, you can open Alipay, start exercise mode, set the alarm clock, heart rate check, and other complex functions.
The connectivity of the Mi Band 4 and Mi Band 4 NFC version has been improved as well in comparison to the previous generation thanks to the Bluetooth 5.0 module which provides a much better range than Bluetooth 4.0 and 4.1.
Next Level Multiple Sports Mode With The 6-axis Motion Sensor
The first three generations of users of the Xiaomi Mi Band series should be deeply touched by the simplicity of the three sports functions – they can only provide information on heart rate, number of steps, etc., and can also monitor sleep, which is not enough for more sports needs. Thus, the absence of multiple sports mode was the only downside of the previous generations.
The Mi Band 4 makes up for this downside. Equipped with 6-axis motion sensor: 3-axis accelerometer + 3-axis gyroscope. The 3-axis accelerometer is responsible for sensing front, rear left, and right (three-dimensional space). Meanwhile, the three-axis gyroscope separate dynamic information that senses left and right tilt, front and rear tilt, and left and right swing.
As shown in the above figure, Xiaomi Mi Band 4 does not currently publicize the up and down building and climbing functions. Even there is no corresponding function option in the App. However, I tried it briefly here in Xiaomi Mi Band 4 review and found that it can capture the vertical distance of my two floored house.
6 Kinds of Sports Modes – Swimming Mode Added
Xiaomi Mi Band 4 also supports 5 ATM level waterproof (can be worn in the shower, swimming in the pool and shallow swimming, but not for sauna and diving). Thus it now supports swimming along with the previous modes of outdoor running, indoor running, walking, exercising, riding. So these are six major sports modes.
Getting in more details, thanks to the built-in six-axis sensor of Xiaomi Mi Band 4, the band can intelligently identify five types of strokes including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and medley when swimming, and track the pace and stroke rate in real-time. It can give professional swimming data and professional advice based on the user’s own swimming data after adjusting the user’s swimming style.

Each sports mode can be opened in two ways, namely, through wristband and the Mi Fit app. However, it should be noted that since the main chassis of the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 does not have a built-in GPS module, before starting the outdoor walking, outdoor running, and other sports mode, be sure to turn on the GPS location on your phone.
After the end of the run, Xiaomi Mi Band 4 can record 5 core data to help improve the efficiency of future walking.
In addition, the band also provides professional advice and reduces sports injuries by tracking the pace and speed data of the user while running. Other exercise modes, riding, etc. are also recording heart rate during exercise and calorie consumption.
Xiaomi Mi Band 4 still supports heart rate warning. When the heart rate is too high, the band will automatically vibrate to remind the user to pay attention. In addition, the implementation of sedentaryreminders and other functions is still based on heart rate monitoring.
