Q: Is Xiaomi Mi Band 4 only a color screen upgrade? Or is it more than just screen? Let’s find out in this Xiaomi Mi Band 4 review:

Yesterday, Xiaomi finally released the new generation of Mi Band series after a wait of one year. The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 Standard version, Mi Band 4 NFC version, and limited Avengers version provided the most anticipating feature ‘the color AMOLED screen’. However, much to our surprise, we came to know that the Mi Band 4 was more than that. New features, clock faces, and more to feature. Indeed, Xiaomi has done some incredible upgrades to the new Mi Band 4 series. Have a seat and let’s uncover what the new bracelet from the Chinese land is capable of:

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 Review – Redefining the Budget Wearable Category

A Flash From The Past

Before starting the actual review, let’s take a look at the history of Mi Band series.

In 2014, Xiaomi released the first generation of Xiaomi Mi Band known as 1 and 1s, using a pedometer to prompt the movement steps, alarm clock, and other functions. At the time of wearables costing more than $100, Xiaomi Mi Band introduced itself to the world for only 79 yuan ($11), which started the budget-friendly wearables era. Indeed, it later became a huge hit.

In 2016, Xiaomi released the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 with the introduction of built-in 0.42-inch display, visualized the content of the band, and added a lot of intimate functions such as heart rate, priced at 149 yuan ($22). The series got life after two years of wait and once again created sales.

It should be noted that before the arrival of Mi Band 4, we were witnessing a release cycle after 2 years. The third generation of Mi Band series came on May 31, 2018, for 169 yuan ($24), with some new features such as text notification, improved dynamic HR, and groove design. However, there was still a disappointment among the fans that it did not debut the color screen and remained to the OLED Black and White display. Since the features were more, larger display, longer battery for only $2 increase in the previous generation price, fans still open-armed accepted the third generation.

Finally, after one year of wait, breaking the 2 years cycle, Mi Band 4 debuted yesterday on May 11 for the same price (169 yuan/$25) as the previous generation. Upgrades include the bigger and colorful AMOLED screen, better battery and more. This will hopefully maintain the 1st position of Xiaomi wearables in the global wearable market share.

The Unboxing

Starting the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 review from the unboxing, the fourth generation doesn’t retain the old box layout, which I liked because it was quite innovative and simple. The current box we have is the customized review unit box (the simple one will don’t have the red banner on it) with a rectangular shape, illustrating the Mi Band 4 on the front with a color screen, a big 4 figure, and since this one is the NFC version, there’s the NFC logo at the front bottom.
