Car Phone Holder Guide

Car Phone Holder Buying Guide | Features To Look For + Recommendation

Using a phone while driving can be fatal, especially with the phone navigation and reading texts etc. Now for that purpose, we have car phone holders. But the problem is that there are plenty out there. Most of them suck while a few are worthy of praise. So I have made a guide to help you get a good car phone holder along with the features that need to be looked at while buying.

Before starting I want to mention the brand that I use as a car phone holder. Here are its phone holders:

I have explained in the guide later, why I use YRU car phone holder.

Why Use Car Phone Holders?

Keep Your Hand Away From the Phone

Driving a car is all about keeping your hands on the steering. But using the phone while steering can be a bit tricky. To prevent any kind of mishap, using a phone holder can be of great advantage.

Safe Driving

Using a phone with your car holder helps you stay more focused on the road. By placing it on the holder, you don’t have to look anywhere to read the notifications. Users can look directly and see if something important has popped up.

Easy Navigation

Car drives are all about reaching new destinations, and that can be only done through navigation. Users can easily look into routes by placing their phones on the holder as they explore the city.

More Focus On The Road

Users are genuinely more focused on the road when their phones are in sight. In this way, they don’t have to think about why their phone beeped as they have all the information in front of them.

How I Select The Best Car Phone Holders

1. Dashboard Docking Vs Windscreen Docking Vs Vent Docking

The car phone holder must be placed in a place where it is not only easy to look at it, but also easy to use. Docking at any place must be sturdy, so you can drive with confidence and enjoy your ride. I have noticed that the windscreen docking usually blocks your view on the front which can lead to accidents. That is why I recommend a dashboard car phone holder. Also, we have the air vent docking which is a good way to make your phone stay cool while charging but the placement is not as good as the dashboard for viewing your phone frequently.

Dashboard Docking > Air Vent Docking > Windscreen Docking

2. Good Sucker And Clip For Stable Hold

Any car holder must have good sucking capabilities to ensure the safety of your phone. It must be sturdy to keep your device from falling off when you hit the bumps on the road. I have seen good phone holders that come with a locking clip to create further pressure on the silicon sucker and a good weight-holding capacity.

3. 360 Degrees Rotation

Sometimes you will need to use your phone in portrait mode and sometimes in landscape. So, it’s a hassle with a no-rotating phone holder that you have to remove the holder and rotate it, and again when you need the other mode you have to do the same. That’s not practical, especially during driving. So, to quickly rotate your phone, a phone holder should have 360-degree movement/rotation and not just that but with a tight locking system.

4. Highly Extendable

Car owners must have the option to view their phone at any length they want while driving. Moreover, sometimes, the docking place is a bit far from the driver’s seat as well. All this can only be done with the option of extendibility. This will not only allow them to view the phone more easily without getting distracted but also allow them to get rid of the phone blocking your view if you have placed it on the windscreen. Think of this feature as an on-hood/windscreen display.

5. Anti-vibration /Anti-shake

What’s the use of a car phone holder, when it shakes your phone so much you can’t even see what’s on it? To prevent that, the holder must have an anti-vibration feature so you can use your phone even when it’s a buggy ride.

6. Other Features

It’s a bonus when car phone holders have extra features including wireless charging, cable management, and a stability clip. I must say that features like wireless charging and cable management are lifesavers because I have struggled with the charging cable getting in the way of the car AC button and the media console.

Tip: If you have a unique charging port and 3.5mm audio jack placement in your phone do check if the phone holder doesn’t block it.

My Recommendation

The YRU [2024 Ultimate] Car Phone Holder

YRU 2024 Ultimate Car Phone Holder

After analyzing so many car phone holders, it is a must that I let you know my favorite one which is The YRU [2024 Ultimate] Car Phone Holder. Why do I prefer it over others? Here are the reasons:

  1. 80lbs of weight support which is the highest in all phone holders, especially if you have a wallet case attached to it
  2. All three modes of mount
  3. The best stability in the phone holders section (easily beats Qifutan and SUUSON
  4. The suction cup doesn’t have any sort of glue that would ruin the car’s body.
  5. Stability clip and cable management
  6. One of the best customer supports
  7. Extendable and 360 degrees rotation

So this car holder checks all six features that I have searched for. However, there are a few cons with this holder but the pros outnumber them:

  1. The dashboard surface must be smooth (doesn’t stick to a grainy dashboard)
  2. Arm extension might not be enough for some

For me, stability and high weight hold are the top priorities so I can’t find a better car phone holder than this for the given price.

Here are the links for buying this car phone holder:

All of these support up to 80 lbs of weight.
