The Mi 9 is powered by a 3300mAh battery. We accept that the battery capacity is not that much as we expected. Compared with the previous generation, Xiaomi Mi 9’s chassis structure is more complicated, and the available space is also slightly stretched. As a result, it is reasonable to reduce the battery capacity from 3400mAh (Mi 8) to 3300mAh, which is 100 mAh less. However, we should also acknowledge that the power consumption of SD 855 (4.44 W) is less than that of Snapdragon 845 (5W). So, in fact, we have like 2 to 3 hours more battery life than that of Mi 8 despite the reduced battery capacity. To cover up the low battery capacity, Xiaomi has upgraded the wired charging to 27W (even exceeding the wired charging power of iPhone). The company has also added a newly released 20W wireless charging board in it. These are the things we are saying, so let’s do the actual battery tests: 1) Online Video Test Online video playback was started at 99% battery, 20% volume, and 50% brightness. The video played for 60 minutes. Starting from 99% of battery, after 60 minutes, the remaining battery is 89%. Power consumption is 10%. According to this power usage rate, Xiaomi Mi 9 can fully play online video for about 10 hours. 2) Gaming Test Coming to the true power consumption test, PUBG Mobile was played for 30 minutes at 100% battery level. It consumes 9% of battery power. According to the result, Xiaomi Mi 9 is expected to run PUGB Mobile at high graphics for straight 5 hours and 30 minutes which is more than enough. 3) Charging Test Xiaomi Mi 9 features the new Turbocharge flash charging solution, which supports 27W wired fast charging and up to 20W wireless fast charging. Different from the low-voltage and high-current scheme adopted by OPPO and other manufacturers, it introduces a charge pump, half-charge, direct charge technology in the wired part, which is a high-voltage low-current scheme. However, it solves the problem of the efficiency of the traditional high voltage and low current through direct charge technology and half charge. It should be noted that apart from the QC 4.0+ support we have the actual QC 4.0+ charger and cable. Charging starts from 0%, it takes a total of 70 minutes to charge 99%. Compared to the previous 19W era, the charging improvement is 100%. Continued on Page 6 (OS & Gaming)
