Today, MediaTek added another new 5G SoC in their lineup. This time it is MediaTek Dimensity 700, a slightly downgraded version of the Dimensity 720. Let’s dive into the details to know more about the newly released SoC including Dimensity 700 specs, phones, features, and AnTuTu scores.
Despite being a mid-end SoC and the least powerful in the Dimensity mid-end SoC (720, 800, 820), Dimensity 700 uses a 7nm LPP FinFET process by TSMC which matches the process of all other Dimensity SoCs including the high-end Dimensity 1000 series.
According to the officials, the 7nm process is 28% more efficient than the 8nm process.
Dimensity 700 5G uses a dual-cluster, octa-core design (2+6). In details, the configuration is like this:
In comparison to the Dimensity 720, we see that the high-performance Cortex-A76 cores have been decreased from 4 to 2, meanwhile, the frequency has been increased to 2.2GHz (0.2GHz increase). As for the Cortex-A55 cores has been increased from 4 to 6, while the frequency is the same.
In short, Dimensity 700 will be:
Dimensity 700 features a 2 core Arm Mali-G57 MC2 as the GPU running @950MHz. Its bigger brother which is Dimensity 720 also has Mali-G57 but MC3 which is 3 cores. The frequency of Dimensity 720 GPU isn’t announced, but we believe that the Dimensity 700 GPU has more frequency as a compensation for the 1 reduced core, as done in the GPU section.
So, one will see a slight decrease in graphical performance in playing games such as PUBG (mid graphics, high frame rate). Sadly, we will be missing another of MTK’s iconic feature which is MediaTek HyperEngine.
Sadly, Dimensity 700 like Dimensity 720 doesn’t have the iconic APU 3.0 as found in Dimensity 1000 series. Instead, we see an AI accelerator that provides AI capabilities but at a very basic level. The performance of the APU is 3 TOPS.
Since Dimensity 700 is a downgraded version of 720 with the decrease performance in GPU and GPU section, we expect MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G AnTuTu (v8) benchmark score to be 250,000 to 280,000 points. Its ancestor Dimesnity 720 has a score of around 300,000 points on Realme V5.
MediaTek Dimenity 700 like the rest of Dimensity SoC supports 5G networking with SA & NSA modes. The maximum download speed is 2.77 Gbps while the upload speed is 1.2 Gbps.
Features such as 5G Carrier Aggregation (2CC 5G-CA) and 5G dual SIM dual standby (DSDS) are present along with MediaTek 5G UltraSave. This in fact is the most power-efficient 5G SoC.
As far as other connectivity options go, we have Bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 5 ac.
MediaTek Dimensity 700 supports single camera support up to 64MP and dual-camera support up to 16MP + 16MP. Apart from the sensor, the SoC provides Night Shot Enhancements for better low light results along with basic AI filters including AI-bokeh, AI-color, and AI-beauty.
Other features of Dimensity 700 includes memory support, screen refresh rate, and voice assistants.
Dimensity 700 supports LPDDR4x memory with a maximum frequency of 2133MHz similar to Dimensity 720 and UFS 2.2 (2-lane) storage type.
The maximum screen refresh rate supported is 90Hz again similar to Dimensity 720. Moreover, multiple voice assistants are supported such as Google, Amazon, Baidu, Tencent, and Alibaba.
Currently, there’s no Dimensiity 700 5G phone announced or rumored. We expect the next budget-friendly releases from Xiaomi and Realme to feature this SoC next year.
Since this isn’t Exynos or Kirin, Dimensity 700 will be available on multiple brands smartphones. Such we will be seeing a huge price range where Redmi and Realme will provide the most cost-effective and OPPO and Vivo to be slightly expensive. However, looking at its big brother Realme V5 priced at 211 USD, a Dimensity 700 5G phone will range from as low as 180 USD to as high as 250 USD.
In short, Dimensity 700 is the slightly under-power version of Dimensity 720 with reduced max CPU and GPU performance. However, other highlights remain the same such as 90Hz refresh rate, 2133MHz LPDDR4X RAM support, 7nm process, 5G networking, and 64MP camera support with light enhancement feature. Thus, thanks to Dimensity 700, 5G networking will be available at a more budget-friendly price . This may be the most power-efficient 5G phone as well.
