Qualcomm Might Rename Snapdragon 875 to Snapdragon 888

Qualcomm’s new generation of Snapdragon flagship processors will be unveiled at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit. However, it might not be Snapdragon 875 but instead of Snapdragon 888.

Getting in the details, according to Qualcomm Snapdragon’s naming rules, the next-generation flagship SoC is expected to be Snapdragon 875. However, there are rumors that the next generation of Qualcomm is not called Snapdragon 875, and maybe renamed.

So why Snapdragon 888? On December 1st, realme India CEO ‘Madhav Sheth’ teased us regarding the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC on his personal Twitter account. The tweet was:

This indicates that the next-generation flagship SoC of Snapdragon will still have a three-digit name. Moreover, the famous leakster on Weibo @Digital Chat Station posted that the flagship SoC will be renamed Snapdragon 888.

Snapdragon 888 Specs – What to Expect?

It is reported that the Snapdragon 888 is based on a 5nm process and is still uses the tri-cluster architecture of 1 x super large core + 3 x large core + 6 x small core. The super large core is Cortex X1, the large cores are Cortex A78, and the small cores are Cortex A55.

In comparison with the Snapdragon 865, the new generation of Snapdragon flagship processors introduces a super-large core for the first time and may inherit the 5G baseband. It will be Qualcomm’s first integrated 5G flagship SoC.
