Qualcomm will hold the third Snapdragon Technology Summit on December 5-7. In this event, finally will bring the new Snapdragon platforms, 5G support, and Windows 10 ARM chips. By the way, the media winfuture files from the internal stream confirmed that the next generation chip is called Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, not Snapdragon 8150 as we thought. The SM8150 is the internal chip code of the Snapdragon 855.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 – What do we know so far?
According to the news, the Snapdragon 855 will be the name of the chip released for the market, built-in NPU using a 7nm manufacturing process. The media TechCrunch may have made a mistake in the release time and released the information of the Snapdragon 855 chip in advance.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip will be the first commercial platform to support Multi-Gigabi 5G connectivity, and the first time the dedicated NPU will be integrated into the SoC, providing up to 3 times performance compared to previous options. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 will also optimize for games, artificial intelligence, and photographic algorithms.
According to reports, the Snapdragon 855 chip will use three CPU clusters, using four 1.78GHz energy-saving cores and three 2.42GHz high-end cores. One of the four so-called “golden” cores will additionally achieve frequencies up to 2.84 GHz, but Qualcomm has not yet confirmed. The graphics unit used here will be Adreno 640, which of course will bring performance improvements again.
Not surprisingly, next year Xiaomi, Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola, Google, OnePlus and Sony, will use the Snapdragon 855 in a variety of high-end smartphones. Remember that, in addition to the integrated Snapdragon X24 LTE modem, the Snapdragon X50 5G modem will provide 5G support.
Meanwhile, we just have to wait for the official announcement that Qualcomm will offer us at its event.
