Redmi Teases 50MP Sony IMX766 & IOS in Redmi Note 12 Pro

Today, Redmi announced that the Redmi Note 12 series is equipped with a Sony IMX766 sensor.

Officials said that IMX766 is a favorite of the flagship camera phones, and it is also the “generation U” of mobile photography. Redmi popularized the flagship sensor.

It is reported that the Sony IMX766 sensor has a 1/1.56-inch outsole, which can get more light in, and the lens resolution is 50MP. It supports full-pixel omnidirectional focusing technology to make focusing more accurate and fast. Moreover, it also supports an AI tracking lock, which can detect and identify objects that are often used as the subject of photography such as faces, human bodies, pets, and flowers in real-time, and automatically give priority to track.

Another feature of the IMX766 is its support for DOL-HDR, a “quasi-simultaneous” method of short and long exposure sampling in which long and short exposures are performed in a near-overlapping fashion, with the next exposure starting before the previous frame’s information output is finished. This greatly reduces the interval between long and short exposures.

At the same time, the simultaneity of the overlapping images is preserved, which solves the problem of deviation of different exposure images in the overlapping area.

This sensor has been widely used by high-end flagships as soon as it came out. For example, the main camera of Xiaomi 12 uses Sony IMX766.
