Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 675 vs Snapdragon 730 – CPU Comparison

We start this Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 675 vs Snapdragon 730 debating CPU improvements. The first on the list is the SND 665. It arrives as an improvement over what was seen in the 660, or that is expected, since the current AnTuTu tests have thrown up negative numbers in its overall performance, but this may be because there are no specific terminals for it. The lithography process has been maintained at 11nm, while the octa-core architecture is now divided into 4 high-performance Kryo 260 CA73 cores at 2.0GHz speed and 4 Kryo 260 CA53 cores at 1.8GHz.

For its part, the Snapdragon 675, despite having a time in the market, has aged very well within the high range of mobile phones. This is because it already implemented the 11nm lithography process, which has kept it as a good SoC. However, we don’t know why it was a step down as the SD 670 uses 10nm process. Its cores architecture can be seen superior in speed compared to the present in the SND 665 since it owns two Kryo 460 CA76 cores of 2.0GHz and six Kryo 460 CA55 cores of 1.7GHz. However, as we mentioned before, the performance of the SND 665 is even lower than the chip it is supposed to replace, which suggests that it has not yet been properly optimized.

At the moment the SND 675 CPU exceeds the SND 665

Finally, we have the Snapdragon 730, the evolution of the 710 chip. This comes loaded with extensive improvements in each of its sections. We started with the new lithography process used of only 8nm, being the first Qualcomm chip to implement it. The Octa-Core architecture has been distributed in 2 Kryo 470 CA76 cores of 2.2GHz and 6 Kryo 470 CA55 cores of 1.8GHz, which translates into a 24% improvement in power over the SND 710, but it is just a 1% better on CPU than the SND 675.

In this section, the clear winner in the current day is the Snapdragon 675, keeping up with the 730, despite having a lower lithograph and slower cores.

Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 675 vs Snapdragon 730 – GPU Comparison

The GPU is the most notable difference between the SoCs of this Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 675 vs Snapdragon 730 Comparison. Basically, the SND 730 came out to dominate the gaming market, so its power has focused on improving this graphics unit.

The Snapdragon 665 implements an Adreno 610 GPU, which according to AnTuTu test, represent an improvement of 2% compared to the Snapdragon 660. The really impressive thing is not that it exceeds this chip, but that achieves a similar number to that of another of our competitors, the Snapdragon 675, who with its Adreno 612 unit only surpasses it by 3,000 points, or what is equal to 8%.

The Snapdragon 730 is totally in another league in this section. Its Adreno 618 unit allows it to reach a score of 63,878 in AnTuTu. This is a difference of up to 100% with respect to the other two opponents. Let’s not talk about its G version, which improves this number even more.

In GPU there is nothing to do, it is obvious that the Snapdragon 730 was made with the intention of making the most of the graphics, whether for applications or games.

Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 675 vs Snapdragon 730 – Other Specs Comparison

This Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 675 vs Snapdragon 730 Comparison has been made between these contenders partly because they all have a DSP. This is just another core of the CPU that handles specific IA and machine learning tasks. The SND 675 has a Hexagon 685 unit, which has already been seen in another of the brand’s most popular SoC, the Snapdragon 845.

However, the bet has been improved in the new processors. In the SND 665, we found the Hexagon 686, which includes Hexagon Vector eXtensions (HVX) for the analysis of images and advanced computations. The SND 730 goes a little further with the help of the Hexagon 688, which, in addition to having the capabilities of the previous versions, also includes for the first time in the 7 series the Hexagon Tensor Accelerator, true HDR and CV-ISP.

Other marked differences are the ISP of the chips. The SND 665 uses a Spectra 165 with support for a single 25MP sensor or a dual 16MP sensor. The SND 675 is not so different since with its ISP Spectra 250 it is also compatible with the same camera configurations. The SND 730, for its part, implements the Spectra 350 with compatibility of a single 36MP sensor or dual 22MP sensors.

The SND 730 opens new possibilities for AI, and for capturing images and videos.

In terms of memory, the SND 665 is the most modest, just supporting 2 LPDDR4 memories, while both the SND 675 and the 730 use LPDDR4X memories, in addition to 1MB of system cache.

Finally, regarding Internet modems, the two SoC’s of the 6 series share the Snapdragon X12 LTE with 12 and 13 categories, which translates into downloads of up to 600MB and uploads of up to 150MB. The SND 730 slightly improves this section by implementing the Snapdragon X15 LTE with categories 15 and 13, which, although they leave it with the same upload speed as the previous contenders, increases the download speed up to 800MB.

Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 675 vs Snapdragon 730 – AnTuTu Score Comparison

By pure power, we can see that the Snapdragon 730 leaves the Snapdragon 665 and 675 badly standing.

  • Overall AnTuTu Score of the SD 665: 125.092
  • Overall AnTuTu Score of the SD 675: 174.402
  • Overall AnTuTu Score of the SD 730: 213.113

Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 675 vs Snapdragon 730

The difference in performance between the most humble participant and the best-prepared one is 70%, which represents a large margin between them.

Snapdragon 665 vs Snapdragon 675 vs Snapdragon 730 – The Conclusion

If the manufacturer seeks to build a powerful terminal, especially to play, definitely the Snapdragon 730 is the right choice. Even if there is a considerable price difference between the 675 and 730, the latter is still much more powerful. The real competition will exist between the SND 665 and the SND 675 since the first has not yet been tested in a terminal optimized for its use. If the performance between these two chips of the same series gets closer, then there will be no reason not to opt for the new 665.

The 7 series still shows why it is one of the best, significantly improving the performance within its class.

Winner: Snapdragon 730

The new Snapdragon chips will be in the Smartphones by mid-2019, so we will not have to wait long to see their true power.
