For what purpose you need Tonor TM20 or an Omnidirectional microphone? Omnidirectional vs Dynamic/Condensor Like previously said, the Tonor TM20 USB microphone is an omnidirectional microphone that picks up sound from every direction equally . So, it’s a good choice for conferences and meetings where there are people gathered around the table. Moreover, these types of microphones have an increased pickup range from the condenser or dynamic microphones so that users can speak far away from the microphone. The sound quality of omnidirectional microphones isn’t at the level of condenser or dynamic microphones, especially under the $30 price tag. However, as a conference microphone, an omnidirectional microphone gets the job done with audible sound quality. Consider this microphone for: Group meetings Conference call Don’t consider this microphone for: Gaming Livestreaming/Youtubing Instrumental and Vocal Recordings Podcasting TONOR TM20 USB Microphone Review – Specs Sheet Model TM20 Type Conference microphone/Omnidirectional microphone Polar Pattern Omnidirectional (360 degrees) Input Sample Rate 48kHz Bit Rate 16Bit Frequency Response 20Hz~20kHz Sensitivity -38dB±3dB(0dB=1V/Pa,1kHz) Output Impedance 2.2kΩ Max.SPL 105dB Port/Connectivity Type-C Features One Button Mute, Plug, and Play, Noise Reduction Compatibility Computers and laptops (Windows/macOS/Linux) Mobile phones and tablets (Android, iOS) Accessories User Manual Type-C to Type-A Cable Price $29.99 TONOR TM20 USB Microphone Review – Design & Appearance Starting the TONOR TM20 USB microphone review with the design and appearance, Tonor TM20 has a pad like a layout that resembles other omnidirectional microphones on the market. It’s made of metal has a sleek design which adds worth to its built quality and appearance, has a black and grey finish along with the Tonor logo on the bottom. At the center is the mute touch button. Blue glowing LED >>> Unmuted/Power on No glowing LED >>> Power off/Disconnected Red glowing LED >>>Muted It has a large surface area covered with holes which allows the micrphone to pick sound effectively and clearly from a long distance. The problem with this type of design is that it makes the audience confuse it with a portable speaker. However, Tonor TM20 isn’t a speaker but a microphone. TONOR TM20 USB Microphone Review – Connectivity & Compatibilty The biggest highlight of the Tonor TM20 is that it’s a USB2.0 microphone and supports plug and play. This means that you don’t need to install any driver. Just connect it to the USB port of a laptop or PC, Windows/macOS detects the device, and start recording. It comes with a 1.5m cable which is a Type-C to Type-A USB connector. We are glad that it isn’t the old micro-USB port on the device but the latest Type-C and the connector is easily available in the market and comes with other gadgets as well just in case the current one is lost/damaged or you need a longer cable. It should be noted that the Tonor TM20 USB microphone is compatible with: Computers and laptops (Windows/macOS/Linux) with the already given Type-C to Type-A connector Mobile phones and tablets (Android, iOS) with the Type-C to Type-C/microUSB/Lightning connector) It’s not compatible with: Xbox and Playstation TONOR TM20 USB Microphone Review – Sound Quality & Performance Moving to the most important part of the TONOR TM20 USB microphone review, like said, Tonor TM20 USB microphone is one of the best omnidirectional microphones out there under $30. It has the most pickup range in comparison to other conference microphones (compared below). The pickup range of the Tonor TM20 USB microphone is 5m/16.4ft. Speaking of the sound quality, in comparison to other $30 omnidirectional microphones, the vocals are great and the sound boost is incredible even at the mentioned 5 meters range. No matter where you are in the mentioned range, the voice picked by the microphone will be clear and equally distributed. However, as said, it’s only good for speaking/conversation but not for any professional recording. Recommended settings for the microphone. Above 15 dB white noise increases The only downside of this microphone but in fact of all cheap omnidirectional microphones are that they pick up background noise (fan sound, keyboard sound etc) easily . Now Tonor TM20 does provide a noise reduction feature but there is still some background noise along with white noise (Signal Noise Ratio) which do become much audible at higher levels. Well, we can expect that from a $30 microphone.
