Today, on June 4th, Xiaomi Mi 9 received an MIUI 10 China Stable ROM update (MIUI V10.2.27.0.PFACNXM). The new version of the system has added “anti-flicker mode” to support global DC dimming in Xiaomi Mi 9. This can be activated by:
Settings > Display > Anti-Flicker mode
After turning on, it can prevent screen flicker at low brightness, and eye protection can reduce visual fatigue, but the partial display of the screen will be slightly biased.
Zhang Guoquan, director of Xiaomi’s smartphone system software department, said that this DC dimming is different from the traditional “display+ dimmer” design. Under the display design, the grayscale resolution and color resolution of the screen is degraded, and the graininess of the screen is still unavoidable.
Xiaomi combines the characteristics of the Qualcomm platform with OLED and uses the special hardware features of phones to make an innovation. It should be the first time that OLED has entered the PWM dimming era. It is the first time to recognize the “hardware DC dimming” without loss of data transmission on the platform, without sacrificing under the premise of power consumption. The noise of the screen at low brightness and the “wiping screen” effect are greatly improved, and the display permeability is also greatly improved.
The arrival of DC dimming in Xiaomi Mi 9 will hopefully add more value to the flagship.
