To iOS and Android phones

Step 1: Open the lid of the charging case.

Step 2: With your earbuds in the charging case, press and hold the Pair button on the bottom of the charging case for 5 seconds. A white light will start flashing on the case and the earbuds will be ready to pair with any device.

Step 3: Go to the device’s Bluetooth settings.

Step 4: Select “Microsoft Surface Earbuds”. If a password is needed, type “0000”.

Step 5: After that, the pairing will be done.

To PC (Windows)

Step 1: Turn on Window’s Bluetooth.

Step 1: Take both earbuds out of the charging case.

Step 2: Identify the left and right earbuds.

Step 3: Choose the ear tips that best suit your ears.

Step 5: Rotate for the best possible comfort and best fit, and make sure that the microphone is pointing to the mouth.

  • Play or pause music: Press the multifunction touch button on any of the earbuds two times.
  • Play the next song: Swipe forward on the multifunction touch button on the left earbud.
  • Play the previous song: Swipe backward on the multifunction touch button on the left earbud.
  • Turn the volume up: Swipe up on the multifunction touch button on the right earbud.
  • Turn the volume down: Swipe down on the multifunction touch button on the right earbud.
  • Answer an incoming call: Press the multifunction touch button on any of the earbuds two times.
  • End a current call: Press the multifunction touch button on any of the earbuds two times.
  • Activate the voice assistant: Press and hold the multifunction touch button on any of the earbuds until a “beep” is heard.

The Microsoft Surface Earbuds can be used with an application, called Microsoft Surface. This application is available in the Apple Store, Play Store, and Microsoft, for iOS and Android devices, and computers. When opening the application, the first thing we have to do is connect our earbuds, and after that, some specific page. On the main page of this application, you will not only find the device that is connected to the app, but you will also be able to see the battery percentage of the earbuds, as well as the battery percentage of the charging case. Just below that are five specific pages:

  • Volume level: Here, you can control the volume level of the earbuds, in case you don’t want to do it manually with the earbuds controls.
  • Equalizer: Here, you can modify the content level in sound frequencies, between high, low, and different types of music.
  • Device settings: In this part, not only can the touch control on the earbuds be activated or deactivated, but also the aptX audio can be activated, and the language of the earbuds can be modified.
  • Device information: This is the point where you can find general information about the connected device, as well as the rest of the products released by Microsoft.

Step 1: Open the lid of the charging case and take the earbuds out. After that, they will turn on automatically.

Step 2: Connect the Microsoft Surface Earbuds in the Microsoft Surface app.

Step 3: In the Microsoft Surface app, select “Account”, and then “Surface Earbuds”.

Step 4: Select “Device Information”, and then look to see if an update is available. If an update is available, select “Update now”.

NOTE: The update can take about 15 minutes or so to download and install on Android, and about an hour on an iOS device. You won’t be able to use your earbuds to make calls or listen to music while the update is in progress. Also, you’ll get a notification when the update is complete.

Step 1: Plug the USB cable into a PC and plug the USB-C end into the USB-C port on the back of the charging case.

Step 2: Open the Microsoft Surface app, then select “Surface Earbuds”.

Some Common Earbuds Problems & Troubleshooting

Left / Right / One side of the earbuds have stopped working

If this happens, it may be because it is low on battery or it did not connect correctly with the device. To fix this, you can do the following:

1. Try charging the earbud that is not working or both, placing them in the charging case.

2. Try factory resetting the earbuds.

3. Check if the earbuds are operating within a normal working range.

If that doesn’t work, the earbud is probably faulty, and I can go for a refund or replacement of it.

Left / Right / One side of the earbuds has low volume

If this happens, it may be because the earbuds are dirty or the volume is set low. To fix this, you can do the following:

1. Try cleaning the earbud using a cotton swab or carefully clean the mesh with a pin.

2. Try factory resetting the earbuds.

Microphone not working

If this happens, it can be because the microphone is muted, or the earbuds are badly positioned. To fix this, you can do the following:

If the microphone is muted, check the device microphone volume. If that doesn’t work, that means that there might be a defect in the earbud, so try replacing them or get a refund.

If the earbuds are earbuds not connecting, it can be because the Bluetooth on the computer has a pairing problem. To fix this, you can do the following:

1. Try disabling Bluetooth from nearby devices >>> then activate pairing mode of the earbuds, pair and connect earbuds from Settings >>> Bluetooth & other devices >>> Add a new device >>>> elect Bluetooth,

2. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Bluetooth driver, or update the Bluetooth driver. All can be done in Manage >>> Device Manager, reset earbuds (if available), and then repeat the step.
