Redmi K60 Series | Things You Must Know From The Leaks

Highlights According To Leaks

  • Redmi K60 series release date: 27 December 2022 (China) / January 2023 (Global, unofficial)
  • We will be seeing 3 models: Redmi K60E, K60, and K60 Pro
  • Dimensity 8200, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be powering all models, respectively
  • LPPDR5X and UFS4.0
  • The series is expected to have a 2K resolution with a one-of-a-kind TCL AMOLED display
  • MIUI 14 (Android 13) is the OS

It looks like Xiaomi’s release schedule is getting earlier and earlier every year. A series that we would typically see come out next year (for the previous K50 series), and even in March (for the K40 series released back in 2021), is expected to release even before the new year which is 27 December. The Redmi K60 series is one of the most anticipated series in the entire Redmi smartphone lineup. Maybe, because it offers the best value for $ the spent, or they are really well-optimized phones which can be considered somewhat gaming phones.

Redmi K60 series teaser poster

Redmi K60 series will be releasing 3 models this time. The usual Redmi K60 5G standard and the flagship level Redmi K60 Pro 5G. Moreover, there is a new budget-friendly version as well known as Redmi K60E. What are the rumored specs of these phones, let’s find out according to the official teasers and leaks.

Design & Appearance

Redmi K60 series is expected to have designed and built similarities between all three versions. All of them are flat-display phones with a punch-hole notch in the center. The chin and the side borders are super narrow for a better viewing experience.

Moreover, the front and back are glass (both tempered) and the aluminum alloy frame is sandwiched between them.

The rear camera placement will be similar as well between all three models. It will be the triple rear camera configuration, all aligned vertically. The first two lenses are circular, while the last one is square-shaped.

Screen & Display

The greatest selling point of the entire series is the quality of display it offers. Instead of limiting it to the Pro version like last time, the whole series is equipped with a 2K flexible screen as standard, and it is jointly developed by TCL Huaxing Optoelectronics.

This display is expected to be the pinnacle of the Redmi and even the Xiaomi smartphones. Both, Xiaomi and TCL have undergone 700 days of working, 10,000 screen tests, more than 60 kinds of design verification, and tens of thousands of system driver debugging for one and a half years, and finally achieved mass production.

Considering the display parameters, we have a screen that has almost no drawbacks. It not only has 2K resolution, but also has 1400nit peak brightness, 12-bit color, P3 color gamut, diamond-like arrangement, 526PPI pixel density, and primary color professional-grade color accuracy. Surprisingly, the color difference is only about 0.29.

It also supports 1920Hz PWM dimming, hardware low blue light, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HDRVivid certification, etc.

Redmi K60 series display

The 2K screens of the K60 series are developed and manufactured in China. They are all manufactured by TCL Huaxing’s 6th-generation AMOLED production line, which is also the first 6th-generation AMOLED production line in China.

So instead of buying the much more expensive Samsung AMOLED display, we will be seeing a much cheaper and hopefully better TCL AMOLED display. This would hopefully decrease the cost of production of Xiaomi and Redmi phones.

Hardware & Performance

Starting with the SoC, we have the following configuration according to the rumors:

  • Redmi K60E – Dimensity 8100
  • Redmi K60 – Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
  • Redmi K60 Pro – Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
Redmi K60 series SOCS

Redmi K60 and K60 Pro SoCs are built on a 4nm process while the Redmi K60E is based on a 5nm process. Just to let you know the performance difference, here are the AnTuTu benchmark scores:

Overall AnTuTu Score810,000+1,020,000+1,200,000+

Teasers confirm for Redmi K60 Pro that the SoC will be coupled with the latest LPDDR5X RAM and UFS4.0 storage. The RAM will be up to 16GB and 512GB storage in the highest variant of the Pro version. It is rumored that the other two variants will also feature LPDDR5X RAM but instead of UFS4.0, we will see UFS3.1.

Redmi K60 series RAM and ROM

Combining the SoC and the memory and storage, Redmi says that the Redmi K60 Pro has an AnTuTu score of 1,350,526 points.

Redmi K60 series Antutu score

For the notorious heat generation by the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 SoC, Redmi K60 Pro will have a 5000mm² VC liquid cooling built with stainless steel. The area is increased by 26% when compared to Redmi K50 Pro, and the system weight is even lighter.

In fact, the Redmi K60 Pro is being targeted as an e-sports gaming phone by the company.

LPDDR5X vs LPDDR5 – What’s The Difference?

In comparison to LPDDR5, the newer LPDDR5X has an increased speed of 33% and the frequency is as high as 8533Mbps.

UFS 4.0 vs UFS 3.1 – What’s The Difference?

Thanks to the high-speed serial interface and optimized protocol, the interface bandwidth of UFS 4.0 doubles to 23.2Gbps, allowing a maximum read and write speed of 4.2GB/s, sequential read/write speed increased by 100%, and the energy consumption ratio increased by 46%.

Camera

Similar to the previous Redmi K series, we don’t think that the camera will be a highlight of the series. With that being said, and looking at one specific teaser released by Redmi’s CEO, the Redmi K60 series could come with a rectangle-shaped main camera module with three cameras and a pill-shaped LED flash unit.

Among users, it is said that these three cameras could be configured as the main sensor, an ultra-wide sensor, and a macro sensor. However, different camera sensors are to be used as the primary camera for all three versions.

Battery & Charging

At present, the Redmi K60 series has passed 3C certification, one of which supports 120W fast charging (Pro), and the other two support 67W (standard and 60E). Also, they will support 30W wireless charging.

OS

Redmi K60 series will feature the new MIUI 14 (based on Android 13) and will receive 2 years of Android and security updates. It’s the lightest yet greatly customizable Android skin.

The K60 series will be equipped with a berserk engine. The system optimization team uses e-sports phones as benchmark models to optimize data reading and writing, underlying scheduling, touch detection, network delay, etc., to ensure that every last bit of performance is squeezed out.

Connectivity

So far, and observing the current market, it is said that this series could support 3G, 4G, and 5G networks, plus having Bluetooth 5.2 or 5.3, and WiFi 6e. In addition, they could have a USB Type-C 3.1 port

We still have to wait a bit to see the official specifications of the phones in this series, however, do you think they will be similar to the leaks? Let us know in the comments!
