It counts with 2 cores at 2GHz for maximum performance and other 6 cores at 1.7GHz for less demanding situations and for energy savings. The Snapdragon 821, whose model name is MSM8996 Pro, has chosen a manufacturing technology in 14 nanometers. The Snapdragon 821 CPU also has quad-core Kryo cores. Two groups of two cores that increase their speed to 2.4GHz, while the two lower-power cores go from 1.6GHz to 2GHz. The 675 has the virtue of being much newer compared to the design of the Snapdragon 821 that is almost 4 years old. As the technology evolves, the 675 would be more efficient in terms of energy and, in general, faster. Finally, both have a 64-bit architecture. As we can see, the new chipset includes some advanced features in mid-range phones that are now only found in high-end or flagship phones. AnTuTu Score Comparison According to the AnTuTu list, the Snapdragon 675 processor scored 174,402 points. A score that surpasses many of its mid-range peers but especially the Snapdragon 821 that remains in AnTuTu Benchmark with a score just above the 154,000 points. While this meant enormous power during its launch, today it lags behind mid-range processors such as the 675. GPU Comparison The GPU equipped in the Snapdragon 675 is a 6th generation Adreno 615. In the graphics section of the Snapdragon 821, the Adreno 530 GPU of 650GHz predominates. In theory, the Adreno 615 must have a better performance, compared to the Adreno 530 because it is a generation below. Also, Snapdragon 675 has been manufactured to improve the performance of mid-range smartphones dedicated to video games. The Snapdragon 675 is compatible with Vulkan and OpenGL 3.2. In addition, it is specially optimized for different graphics engines among which are the most widespread of the moment. Unreal Engine 4, Unity, Messiah or NeoX, among others, run smoothly on the Snapdragon 675, which has multiple internal optimization tools for the execution of games. Other Specs Comparison The world of mobile cameras takes time to absorb trends, and unlike the Snapdragon 821, the Snapdragon 675 takes over almost all of them, offering the possibility of incorporating high-middle range phones. This AI not only helps in the camera but also in facial recognition in three dimensions. So we find the Hexagon 685 DPS in the Snapdragon 675, and we have a Snapdragon X12 modem that allows 4G downloads of category 12, with up to 600 Mbps. The Snapdragon 821 stays a step behind with the Hexagon 680 DSP that includes Hexagon vector eXtensions (HVX) and sensor core with low power island for always-on sensor processing. However, in connectivity there seem to be no differences in the Snapdragon 821, so we will have LTE again in categories 12 and 13, with download speeds of maximum 600Mbps. The Snapdragon 821 also offers a Dual ISP image processor up to 25 megapixels, support for LPDDR4 memories up to 1.8GHz and both recording and playback of video with 4K resolution. The Snapdragon 675 has Bluetooth 5.0, but the 821 offers only Bluetooth 4.1 version. Snapdragon 675 vs Snapdragon 821 Verdict Winner: Snapdragon 675 > Snapdragon 821 As we already mentioned, both Snapdragon 821 and 675 occupy different market segments (high-end versus mid-range). However, that does not currently matter because of the differences in the release time of each one. The Snapdragon 675 made its appearance to put a little more emotion to the trend of gaming phones. So, the 675 brings features of the Snapdragon 845 to lower categories, thanks to this some phones dedicated for video games can be sold at cheaper prices. Logically, this suffers a little power, but compared to the Snapdragon 821, the level of 675 is well above and proves to be an excellent alternative to new high-end chipsets. Even its performance is not so low with respect to its older brothers.
