Vivo X27 Review – When Cool Gimmicks, Appearance Sells Over Performance

[su_heading size=”20″ margin=”30″]Connectivity & OS[/su_heading]

Connectivity is one of the highlight features of this phone in Vivo X27 review. That is because not only Vivo X27 is the first Vivo smartphone to feature a Type-C USB interface, but also retains the 3.5mm audio jack. The SIM slot placement is also unique (present near the Type-C USB). The SIM slot is hybrid allowing you to add two Nano SIMs or one Nano SIM and a MicroSD card up to 256GB. Sadly, the speaker is mono as you can see there’s only one speaker opening. Vivo really needs to add stereo speakers under that price tag.

The on-screen fingerprint reader is also retained in the flagship and is slightly faster than the previous one thanks to the optimizations done in the new OS of vivo.

Coming to the last section of Vivo X27 review, Vivo has recently released it’s new OS ‘FunTouch OS 9‘ based on Android 9.0. Vivo X27 is one of the first phones to feature it. Funtouch OS has been making fine-tuning and make-up changes in the long-term period since its birth, without any complete changes. This time it was rare to make a breakthrough in the design elements. Many UIs have been redesigned.

This is mainly because it covers a wider audience now and the OS is easy to adapt. However, the changes made by Funtouch OS 9 this time are obvious and diverse. Compared with the previous generation, it has done more functional evolution.

Among them, the ‘Dark Mode’ is my favorite as well as the most practical feature.

Dark Mode in FunTouch OS 9

As shown above, we can see that when “dark mode” is turned on, the system will change the interface color to dark colors. This effect enables the user not to glare when it is used at night or in the bed, and it can also help save power according to the characteristics of the OLED screen.

Not only the UI gets dark, but the feature is also seen in other apps as well including the Chinese apps such as QQ, WeChat, Jingdong and so on. According to the vivo official, it has been adapted to nearly 300 applications, capable of intelligently distinguishing videos, games, and photos. The global version will include support for Google apps such as Play store.

With the upgrade of FuntouchOS 9, Vivo’s voice assistant ‘Jovi’ has also evolved. With the voice wake up, one can jump between apps, conduct a keyword search, voice reading, and other functions.
