Just as it had been rumored for some time, MediaTek launches a new range of SoC, the G90 series, which arrives with the new Helio G90 and Helio G90T. These are two gamers processors for the mid-range, with 12 nm lithography. On the other hand, there is a new Samsung mid-range processor in the room: the Exynos 9611.

First off let us start with the process technology which determines the power consumption and performance of the SoC. Keep in mind the lower the number the better is the performance as well as battery life efficiency.

Exynos 9611 uses a 10nm process, not unlike its predecessor the Exynos 9610. Although it does not represent a huge change in regards to the previous iteration Samsung does promise “better performance as well a better battery efficiency.”

Moving on to the CPU section the Exynos 9611 boast an octa-core design, to be more precise, it comes with 4 high-end cortex A73 running at 2.3GHz and 4 Mid-End Cortex A53 running at 1.7GHz

Meanwhile, the Helio G90t also opts for an Octa-core design although this time when it comes to the distribution the device come with 2 x high-end Cortex-A76 running at 2.05GHz and 6 x Cortex-A55 running at 2GHz

When comparing the two side by side we can see that that the Helio G90t has a slight advantage of at least 3.21% when compared to Exynos 9611 making it the winner of this round.

Now we arrive in the GPU section, in here we can see that the Helios comes with Mali-G76 MP4 which in comparison with its previous iteration the mali Mali-G72 Mp3 it offers twice the performance per cluster and according to ARM it offers improvements in the machine learning efficiency and a bigger tile buffer for 16x anti-aliasing.

Since its competitor still comes included with the Mali-G72 mp3 (the previous iteration) it becomes clear that the helios have an edge when it comes to graphical processing making it come out on top.

Our Verdict

Through this review, we have seen that the helios take the crown in almost every category highlighting the fact that the G90t offers higher clock speed, more inherent memory as well as a cutting edge ai technology even for this mid-range device making it the more efficient SoC. However, this is not to say the Exynos is a poor competitor taking into account that it does use a 10 nm process which can make up for the general lack of processing power, being that said, the helios take a more appealing approach in the technical department. In the end, it all comes down to personal preference but as it stands the Helios
G90t seems to be the winner of this comparison.
